  1. Thanks Chris!

Awesome video, I want to know more about how to sell offline services in a consistent, yet hands free approach!

    • Thanks Chris!

While I don’t take offline clients anymore, I’ll definitely do some guest posting on the topic – maybe some video interviews with friends of mine who are BIG offliners.

      That’d be fun I think!

      • Hey Chris,
Definitely like the new direction. I for one have started to unsubscribe en masse from marketers who only send out offers.

Focus is the name of the game for me in 2012.

That’s not to say I don’t want to hear about tools aor techniques that can help me grow my biz. Just want to see a value add rather than a blatant pitch — especially the swipe copy emails — yuk.

I would be interested to hear why you’re not taking on offline customers any more. Too many headaches?

        Thanks for what you do…
        -Shelton

        • Shelton,

My travel got in the way of clients and I eventually just burned out on the whole thing.

I pushed too hard for too long, and ever since I’ve just had zero ambition to work with local businesses.

Many of my colleagues are still heavily into it, so I promote their best offers when I can, but for me, I think I’m almost entirely out of the offline game.

James Foster and I may do a comeback sometime, but it’ll be completely different than what we’ve done before in that niche.

      • Hey Chris

Some video interviews with BIG offliners would be great to watch.

BTW Chris video is awesom, you come across as being very natural

Video is here..!! And it’s here to stay.

  2. Hey Chris,
Love your stuff man. (and I do love magic…lol)

I always dig your offline stuff bro.
You’re one of the guys that I can trust to get me good stuff, whether it be an offer, or a tip….

    Always great stuff.

    • Thanks Dr. Ben!

You know I’m your biggest fan too :)

And keep watching the vids. I’ll be doing a lot more magic in them. It’s fun :D

  3. Chris,

Can anyone ever get enough knowledge about listbuilding
and traffic? And I have like all the products I have purchased/promoted from you. Keep on keepin’ on.

    • No, I don’t think you can get enough of it!

Email is my bread and butter, so I’ll definitely be adding a ton of videos on that topic over the coming weeks.

  4. Hey Chris,

Just had a ‘lightbulb’ moment watching your video!

    In regards to your request…CPA.

    Doug

  5. Hey Chris:

It looks like your back is much better. Did the procedure work as well as you hoped?

I get just about everything you offer because it supports my offline efforts. It’s coming along slowly but surely.

    Online is a different story.

Finding that ever illusive niche and getting traffic, then conversion. There are too many WSOs and other offers that I see which is just the same old rehashed stuff. I doubt most of the people have done what they say they’ve done.

An over the shoulder watch what I do and then make it work would be good. One company tried it (not going to mention names) but when it didn’t pan out, they disappeared.

I am not sure if that is in line with your thinking, but it would surely help for those that have tried and not made any real money.

    Just a thought.

    Randy

    • Hey Randy,

It’s a LOT better than it was. Not to say it’s perfect, not even close, but I can actually get around without wanting to punch myself in the leg to forget about my back pain, haha.

Over the shoulder sounds like a great idea.

James and I stumbled onto what Colin Theriot’s calling, “Fuck It, Do It Live” with our Happy List Profits product, and that format’s been really well received.

On my next project though, I’ll definitely work on some more over the shoulder video. I think that’d go really far as to show people exactly how I do things.

  6. What else, video marketing! Your videos look so easy and natural. Have you got any tips for putting together easy vlogs like you’re doing?

    • Psh. Natural they’re not!

Video’s not necessarily new to me, but I’m still incredibly awkward in front of the camera.

The best thing I can say is to “just do it”.

You’ll notice most of my videos are one cut, no different angles, and mostly terrible lighting.

Lately though, I’ve been trying to make my video look a lot better. It’s time consuming though, that’s for sure!

      • Chris, Your 2012 plan makes me VERY happy. I have been unsubscribing people who push and push products so they can make a profit. But they may not realize they are only digging their grave. I feel they are like vultures and I love to unsubscribe to them.
Chris I truly think you are one of the long term quality leaders.
I have a question; The video you made has great quality. What camera are you using?
I would like to learn more about email marketing. I have not been doing this and know this is a powerful thing we all should do. Then give quality content to our subscribers.
I am working offline business and adding clients with surprising success. This my main focus. Then I also have a couple of affiliate sites where I make a few hundred dollars every month. Good list are good for both on line and offline business and it would be great learning about this. Thanks again!!!

  7. Chris so pleased to hear that you are going back to your original model of supplying your own excellent content rather than “bombarding” your list with offers from the WF. I understand and appreciate the doing JV swaps is a great way of growing your list and promoting WSO’s is great for the wallet for it was getting out of hand and your reputation has become some what tarnished as you were becoming a “list blaster”.

I love your content and have used it to grow my own business so I am really pleased that we are going to see more of your content rather than just another offer.

    Cheers Mark

    • Thanks Mark!

Yeah, I had some trouble with PayPal early this year, and ever since then I was, well, basically scared of launching anything via PayPal again, so I was sticking with promoting other people’s products.

I really have missed putting out my own content though, and now that I’m looking to get away from the Warrior Forum world, I think the old way of “blast them until they unsubscribe” is pretty much dead.

Everything’s about relationships now, and I’m working hard at building a big one with my list members.

      • I agree Chris, the majority of folks have had enough of being “Hammered” with offers. That’s a big reason why some people think email marketing is on it’s way out.

You are right on target with what you’re doing… building a PERSONAL relationship with your list and in the most personal and effective way possible… VIDEO!

I made the mistake of not being consistant with my (small) list early on. I was building it very slowly and not sending emails because the open rates were stupid low and the CTR was a joke.

Once I started getting personal with my list and talking to them like friends the open rate quickly tripled!

Then I realized that everything I did revolved around video except email. Guess what? I started sending video emails to my list and the open rate went through the roof!

I look forward to seeing what you do with video and getting personal with us this year Chris. I like you and I will continue to follow…

        Thanks bro, keep movin’ :)

  8. I’m with Shelton. I have started unsubscribing like crazy from folks who just flog WSOs (I saw this great WSO that I thought would pull you completely off your focus and get you to chase another shiny thing and make me $3 in the proces….).

I would look at what Alex Becker and Alex Cass are doing – content, content, content. I want to know what works.

I’m focusing on offline techniques. So, I’m paring down to that.

Good luck. I respect you a lot. I hope this works great for you.

    • I’ve been doing the same thing actually.

And you’re dead on, content is where it’s at right now.

The way I see it, if I can blow you away with what I’m giving you for free, you’re a lot more likely to buy something that costs way more than a $7 WSO from me in the future.

WSOs are huge right now, but what’s after that? There’s got to be another level, and I think video is where that’s at in many different forms.

      • A camera that does magic tricks… cool !

Aren’t you supposed to have the hot assistant walk in and hand you the coin ?? I must have missed it…

I like your new approach that you are planning.. great.. but, Don Wilson does bring up a good point… Always Be Closing. You should be able to find a nice middle ground in there to succeed in !

There has been a lot of good suggestions made already, the only one I thought of is the quadrillion websites out there that have to address the issue of becoming Mobile Phone Compliant… just saying..

  9. yo yo yo …PLAYA

    Love it…

But… don’t go too far in that direction without selling. Do the 90/10… hit them with the 90% content.. and then the 10% pitch at the end.

They are super happy with the content…then it pre-sells the “ish” out of them on whatever product you’re promoting.

I love the new direction… but don’t go softy on us now. Always Be Closing.

    PEACE OUT!

    -don

    • Haha, softy? Can’t say anybody’s ever called me that before.
I gotta make my money somehow But on the other hand, keeping my lists happy is what pays the bills, and if that includes divulging all my dirty little money secrets, I’m cool with that. I’ve always got more.
And you sir, need a gravatar. I keep seeing your comments on stuff and you never have your face there. Tsk tsk.

  10. Great vid. Clear image. What camera do you use? Anyway, I built a list of 700+ but I have no relationship with them. I’d like great advice on that so I ca monetize my list.

    • It’s a Kodak PlaySport, the most recent generation. $150 pretty much everywhere.

I’ll definitely talk about building a relationship with your list soon. One of my favorite topics :)

      • Hello Chris,
I’m just a lurker around here as I’m trying and failing on a huge scale.

However I know what “backs” are all about (blew L4,5,S1 years back and still suffer) so I empathize.

As far as camera angles go you can do single run through (which was very natural looking … you had me fooled) with two identical cameras.

Set one as a wide frontal shot and the second as a portrait obtuse shot. Start them both, clap your hands a few times so you can sync them up in your editing software … Boom cutaways as natural as can be and no cameraman required.

Just my unsolicited opinion … I think you did a fine job on this video.

  11. Great vid, Chris…if nothing else, you’ve motivated me to finally get off my duff and get a decent webcam to start doing my own.

Now…to go practice hand magic so I can distract people from my head full of luxurious, wavy hair.

    • There’s some really good HD webcams. Can’t wait to get one for myself. Right now I’ve just got a cheap USB one and the integrated cam in my Dell All in One. Both suck.

I’m using a Kodak PlaySport for my main camera right now though. It’s really nice and a budget friendly option.

  12. Hi Chris, Great video. I really like all your products and I am glad to see you moving in the direction of being more personable.

I believe for the marketers that don’t take on this outlook that they will fall behind.

I am redoing my own blog with this in mind.Over delivering will be the new marketing.

I am trying real hard to learn more about email marketing and how to relate to subscribers and still do the soft selling.

Looking forward to learning from someone who is doing it.

    • Thanks Gail :)

Like I said in another comment, email is my bread and butter, so I’ll be sure to post a ton of info about that.

  13. I agree with Doug Philp. More CPA info. I am finding an interest in that lately. Maybe a little SEO also. Nice quality on the video. What’s the new camera you’re using?

    Scott

  14. I think that this approach is going to distinguish you and other providers of quality content. Well done for leading the way!

    Besides, I’m pretty much over WSO’s. :o ]
The saturation of offerings has made it increasingly difficult to distinguish between what’s useful and what’s just another “me too!”

There are two big challenges facing us today – whether you are an internet marketer or not; and in the end we all are marketers to some degree.

The first is the effective use of video across all the various channels – website embedded, stored on the likes of YouTube et al, emails, etc.

The second is the shift to mobile platforms – smartphones and tablets, etc.

I would see your insights in these areas as beneficial to helping us find our way through these challenges.

    - Stephen

  15. Hi Chris,

Great video and great direction. You can improve a lot of people’s lives in this way. I think there are a lot of people looking for direction on Facebook marketing. I think that would be an awesome topic to focus on.

    Mark

  16. Hey Chris,

i’d like to hear some advice on a couple of aspects of starting your business.

*the best way to name your business

*the difference between incorporating or being a LLC…or doing neither

*the tax advantage of each of the above and common tax deductions for home businesses

    Thanks,
    John<

    Jesus Is Lord!

    *

    • Hey John,

I’m far from smart enough to talk to you about tax stuff, but one of my favorite books, “From Entreprenuer to Infoprenuer” covers a lot of the business naming you want to learn about. There’s one chapter in there about it that’s really good.

  17. Chris, list building, etc. are good for me.

I was not on your blog when you shared about back problems. Please check this link from amazon.com. I LOVE the Miracle Balls. I have the set with two balls and the booklet. I not can hardly sit at my desk without one of the balls between my back and chair. A friend who was in an auto accident also uses them this way for greatly increased comfort.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_13?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=miracle+balls+back+pain&sprefix=miracle+balls%2Caps%2C312

    • Thanks for the recommendation Rebecca.

I’ve never actually mentioned my back issues on here before – Randy’s just a buddy of mine who knows about it :)

It’s all just from sitting in front of the computer for so many years. But I found something called a “Shakti Mat” and it’s really helped my back pain.

  18. Hey good video chris, well im still trying to find out about a good niche to get into and i did find one person that will setup a system for a reasonable price of 100 dollars and i was thinking of letting him do it for me so i can start making some commissions.

    • Unless you really know what you’re getting into, those “Give me $100 and I’ll double your investment” type deals are usually crap.

Stick with getting it all figured out on your own, then once you have a system in place, you can hire a $4 an hour VA to do it over and over again for you.

  19. Hi Chris, New to your blog but I have really enjoyed the one thing that is so hard to find……..The real deal. Credibility

    Thanks, Chris

    • Thanks Larry :)

It’s my goal to come across as real as I can.

If you noticed in the video I did a little magic trick. That’s straight from my hobbys :P

  20. Thanks Chris for the new vid. New camera looks spot on.

As far as topics I have been working at offline for about 2 years now trying to go full time, but it just hasn’t come together yet.

Because of that I am getting back into affiliate marketing (I can hide behind my computer and not have to deal with people…:) ) The topic of CPA and SEO are an area I would love to enter especially if it were instructional like do this then this and that.

I know you will come up with something really effective and helpful. You always have in the past. Thanks again Chris!

  21. Thanks for the vid Chris. Very well done.

My vote is for you to do some instructional material on CPA and SEO together but with emphasis on how to set it up to make it most likely the customer will actually click on the offer.

    Looking forward to it all.

    Thanks again!

  22. Hi Chris,
I have been picking up a few of your products lately and like what I see every time. (Just wish you would provide the D/L so I could burn them to my video player and have them with me to review when I have a few minutes to spare).
As for your trick, simple redirection of focus! Make them look at what you want them to look at while you do something else in the background.

  23. Chris,

Loving your new approach and attitude, you know what they say in the south when it is a very good thing “Now That’s A Mile High Meringue” … This saying is mentioned in the movie “The Help”, … Hey that would be a good name for your Blog Chris … “The Help” :-)

  24. Hey Chris,
glad you’re asking. I’m still interested primarily in email. For 2012 I want to look more into traffic strategies where people get to know you and learn to trust you before they even subscribe to your list. I think forum posting would be great but also having a blog or website where visitors have to dig through great content before they get to see your squeeze page. I am a bit confused on how to use social media for that purpose. Not every platform is effective. G+ sounds promising…. I’m just sick of unresponsive junk traffic.

  25. I would love to see some content on repurposing available, free content into paid products and services that are actually worth the price tag tied to them.

  26. great vid Chris. i haven’t been on your list for a long time. been on it for a few months thanks to JVzoo aff program. anywho i like getting messages from you because i don’t receive to many product promoting email from you so that is always a plus.

anyways as far as i know your list building techniques are awesome and thanks to you a have been steadily building my list.

so if i would suggest anything maybe is how can us newbie list builders create good emails to send out and also how can we get some JV partners that can trust us to do swaps and JV with us. i think that would be a good product or course to put out or teach.

thanks again for not being product spammer! :)

    elvis

  27. Thanks Chris, appreciate the sincerity in your message. Looking forward to seeing more videos like this from you.

    Scott

  28. Hi Chris
Looking forward to your new content. I’m looking forward to what you have to share regarding cpa.
    Cheers Dedi

  29. Hey There Chris,

I’ve always loved your content and even a couple of WSOs along the way. I’m really into mostly into the cutting-edge stuff… since, subjectively I’ve been an AR/email manager type guy for years.

So, eg., might be subject matters like… best tricks for server-based email deliveries utilizing Domain and Sender Keys (eg., DKIM and SPF)… and what about getting an ‘embed’ video feed… where’s that cutting-edge protocol, btw?

Basically, expansive concepts that would include new-aged AR deliveries regarding protocols that no-one had ever heard of before. (eg., mobile deliveries, etc.)

    Anyway… all the best!
    -michael

  30. Really enjoyed your Happy List WSO products I recently bought and almost bit at the Presidential Pop-over.

However, I’m interested in list building, advanced traffic strategies and how best to keep track of affiliate marketing offers.

  31. Hi Chris

I’d love some info and help on SEO for my new biz, also how I can use mobile to get more clients.

    Love your work

    Cathy

  32. Great to get to know you better, Chris. Enjoyed the video. Keep it up.

I’m always interested in learning more about SEO for local websites, and Google Places ‘secrets’.

    Thanks

  33. Thank you for getting the point “content is king”. If you have no money or skill how can you create products that complement whats already out there and share in the wealth?

  34. Just love the vid Chris.
This is so much more appealing than those boring affiliate emails that clog my email.

I believe that video is way too important to overlook and would definitely like to hone my skills in that area.

Also looking forward to any Facebook strategies you choose to share.

  35. Thanks for asking Chris.

First I would like to see a REAL way for those of us that have been struggling to find a free Newbie way to earn some fast Cash of up to $500 the very 1st week to get the ball rolling and confidence level up that Online Marketing really does work.
    Robert

  36. I am new to all this and believe that it can be a life changing and very fulfilling new way to work and provide for my family. How to get started and maintain confidence sure crosses my mind a lot. I have been searching around looking for something that both appeals and feels right. I have always felt that listening is one of the best teaching techniques so this new video appeals and feels right. I am interested to hear your thoughts on how you feel connected to your list other than just direct communication. Are there other indicators to feeling connected?

  37. Love the blog! Clean and showcases the video really well.

I’m interested in learning more about CPA and Facebook and hopefully how they can tie in together.

    Happy New Year!

  38. Hi Chris,

Firstly, though belatedly, happy new year! May 2012 be peaceful, prosperous and fulfilling for you.

Secondly, thank you so much for marketing my offline sales course to your list last year (My JV with James Foster).

Thirdly, there are a lot of synchronicities here for me – I think 2012 is going to be a year of change in internet marketing and your video flags up the key issues – it’s no longer about broadcasting widely, it’s about focus. It’s about quality and about service.

    All the best

    Nic

  39. Hey Chris,

I am interested in learning more about mobile marketing for small businesses. Thanks for your interest in OUR interests.

  40. Hey chris, i recently bought your WSO , didnt know you had a blog. I’d like to hear about methods to building a list and driving traffic. I’m almost finished my free 7 day ecourse and would love to start driving traffic and building a list.

  41. Chris,

I really liked your “Happy Email” stuff and would like to see you keep up with tweaks and additions to that.

    Lowell

  42. Good video. I appreciate the candor – I am getting tired of the constant offers. I do consulting for offline businesses because I enjoy but I am selective who I work for and would like to focus more on selling online and building passive income. Looking forward to related information.

  43. I like your way of teaching. Good to know you are not going away but only changing focus. Hoping to get learn more from you on your new direction.

    Keep the good work coming!

  44. I’m interested in offline as a way to build up a nestegg so I can soon quit my dayjob, and I would like to build websites and do online marketing so I can pursue the 4hr lifestyle.

Eventually I’d like to be debt free, and be able to completely work on the cloud with an Apple product and experience total freedom. I’ve been following you for a while, bravo on the new direction! Simplify and focus is the way to go in 2012!

  45. wow! I had no idea you were getting out of offline? it’s one of the reasons I read your emails and I have your ELF software.

no matter, just happy to hear from you every now and again and really appreciate that for the most part you don’t send stupid offers just because.

Hope all goes well with you and would love to just learn more about offlline and cpa would be great as well

    Kim :)

  46. Love your stuff Chris! Can you answer a question for an offline newbie? When you approach a local client (who is not part of a franchise or chain) do you own the domain or does the client? If you the consultant buy the domain, then you can protect all the SEO work that you do and it also allows you to use plugins that have rights only to the sites that you own. Secondly, do you use WordPress for your offline client sites or something else?

  47. Hey Chris, thanks for the video. And the magic. Great stuff. Will visit regularly to keep myself up to date. Hope to bring some things of valua as well.

    Thanks again,

    Peter.

  48. Hey Chris,
Good content. I was on your list for awhile but unsubbed because you were way into local. Glad you are back. I am interested in your awesome list building tips
    Thanks,
    Brett
